Shots fired as Karni Sena factions clash in Jaipur, no one hurt
JAIPUR: A violent clash occurred between two factions of a Rajput outfit-Shri Rashtriya Karni Sena and Shri Rajput Karni Sena-in which gun shots were fired in the city's Chitrakoot area late Friday night. Both sides are accusing each other of firing. Police have begun a probe into the clash, but no one was detained or arrested till late night.
Shri Rashtriya Karni Sena's Shiv Singh Shekhawat alleged that members of Shri Rajput Karni Sena, including Mahipal Singh Makrana, fired shots at him in his office. Following this, supporters of Shekhawat caught and assaulted Makrana.
DCP (West) Amit Kumar said that no one was hurt in the firing. "We are investigating what really transpired here. As of now, no one has been hurt in the firing. Some people assaulted each other and they are being treated. We are questioning all persons involved in the matter," he said. Shekhawat's supporters alleged that Makrana, in an inebriated condition, fired at him. However, Makrana's supporters refuted these allegations.
Shri Rajput Karni Sena's Narayan Singh Divrala said that Makrana is innocent and claimed that Shekhawat's Karni Sena faction was nothing but a sham.
The police sources stated that all individuals inside Shekhawat's office where the shots were fired are being questioned. "We have to ascertain who fired at whom; the investigation is underway. Preliminary probe has indicated that indeed one shot was fired," said an official.
Late at night, senior police officials of the Jaipur police reached the Chitrakoot police station, where police personnel were deployed in large numbers to maintain law and order.
