JAIPUR: The Shipra Path police on Tuesday arrested five persons, including a sharpshooter, for allegedly threatening a construction contractor for extortion of Rs 17 crore.
DCP (South) Yogesh Goyal said that the complainant had filed an FIR at the Shipra Path police station on May 5, alleging that a Bikaner-based gangster had called him up on WhatsApp.
The gangster instructed the complainant to stump up Rs 17 crore and deliver it to Mustaq Khan, Shankar Singh,
Sandeep Singh, and Shivraj Singh.
As per Goyal, the police filed an FIR under multiple IPC Sections, including criminal conspiracy and intimidation. “The subsequent investigation revealed that four persons were sublet contractors and had some financial dispute with the complainant. They enlisted the help of a gangster Rohit Godara to nudge the complainant into paying Rs 17 crore,” he said, adding that four of those accused have already been arrested.
Goyal said that the police continued their investigation Tuesday and arrested five other accused who organised a meeting between the four accused and the gangster.
The police have listed the five suspects as sharpshooter Amarjeet Vishnoi, Rakesh Mehta, Shivraj Singh Shekhawat, Mukesh Kumar Yadav and Baldev Yadav.
The police said that the investigation is underway with the suspects. “All the accused are being interrogated to examine their criminal antecedents,” said an official.
