Anand Singh Rathore, a resident of Subash Colony in Shastri Nagar, was found dead on Monday night. The family later discovered a suicide note and filed a complaint against the SHO and other persons for trying to illegally take over Rathore's property.

The family in their complaint to Jhotwara police station said that Rathore's father had purchased a house from one Laxmi Narayan in Bhatta Basti locality in 1985.

Rathore in his suicide note alleged that Narayan in collusion with his family members and officials managed to get a land deed issued for himself. The deceased alleged that the accused was asking for Rs 50 lakh from him.

As per the family's complaint, Singh on February 8 called Rathore to come to Bhatta Basti police station. The SHO told Rathore that Narayan has a land deed for the property and asked Rathore to show his papers.

The complaint states that though Rathore showed requisite documents, the SHO allegedly instructed Rathore to either vacate the property and threatened that police knew how to handle such matters.

The family alleged that the police began harassing Rathore with one police vehicle regularly circling the property. The complainant also alleged that police forcefully removed one of their tenants.

The family alleged that Rathore was compelled to take his own life due to constant pressure from the SHO and Narayan.

"We have registered an FIR against the persons named in the complaint, further probe is underway," said ACP (Jhotwara) Pramod Kumar Swami.
