Jaipur: Anyone aspiring to take up sports professionally at an early age and working for it often find their studies getting compromised. But 16-year-old Parve Jhalani of Vidhyashram school has proved many wrong.
Jhalani, who represented Rajasthan’s under-14 cricket team as a chinaman (left-arm unorthodox spin) bowler and middle order batsman in 2020, has scored 98.6% in his CBSE class 10 exam. He aspires to play for India and, if that does not work, he has a plan B ready to become a doctor.
“When I am playing a match, I do not think of anything else, and I give my 100 per cent to sports. The moment I return home I just need a shower to switch over and resume studying,” said Parve to TOI at his Bapu Nagar home.
He said he never allows his underperformance in a cricket match, especially when it matters in a selection process, affect him mentally to an extent where his studies get impacted. “When I am playing a match, ground, I do not think about the school or studies. At the same time when I am at school I do not think about cricket,” he added.
Parve’s ideals in cricket are Shane Warne and his father, Rohit Jhalani, a former captain of Rajasthan Ranaji team who played as a wicket keeper-batsman from 1997 to 2011. He has been a guiding force in Parve’s success.
“I just try to help him in what he wants to do, be it cricket or academics. I only ask him to give his 100 per cent in whatever he does,” said Rohit, elated at Parve’s sparkling success in the CBSE board examinations.
Parve has scored full marks in every subject except English, in which he got 94 out of 100, and in social science, in which he scored 99.
