JAIPUR: The Lalkothi police on Sunday busted a gang of sari thieves and arrested two men. The police claimed the accused had stolen sari packets from Saraogi Mansion in Jaipur and might be involved in many other such cases.According to the police, theaccused have been identified as Arif Ahmad (25), a resident of Bareli and Vasim(23) belonging to Babu Ka Teeba area in Ramganj. "Arif had come toJaipur five months ago and had started sari business. Arif and Vasim used toconduct recee in the market from where they could steal saries and other clothitems," said Pradeep Hapawat, incharge of Lalkothi police station.The employee of a Tamil Nadu Super Service Transport companyidentified as Suresh Sharma came to Saraogi Mansion at around 5 pm on Thursday."He had come to deliver the stock of various items to shops in the marketplace.The car had broken down, so Suresh carried a few packets into the market placeand left the remaining ones outside the lift in the marketplace," said PradeepHapawat, incharge of Lalkothi police station.He added that whenSuresh returned, he found the packets in which saries were kept weremissing.In charge Hapawat said that there were CCTVs installed inthe lobby.
"A man had been caught in the CCTV stealing the packet belonging toMaharani Exports Haldiya House," said Hapawat.After the companylodged an FIR with Lalkothi police station, a police team was deputed to searchthe man being shown in the CCTV in the nearby areas."After muchefforts, we rounded up two men Arif Ahmad and Vasim. They confessed to theircrime when interrogated," said the in charge. The police haverecovered the packet of saries from the possession of two men. "Duringpreliminary investigation, it has come up that they might have been involved inmany other cases of sari thefts. We have recovered clothes stolen earlier bythem. Further interrogating with them is going on," said the officer.
