JAIPUR: Aiming to consolidate its position in the forthcoming assembly polls, the Congress high command has decided to field several prominent leaders, including some Lok Sabha members like Union minister of state for forest and environment and Sawai Madhopur MP, Namo Narayan Meena, and Dausa MP Sachin Pilot.
As Dausa Lok Sabha constituency will become an ST reserved seat after the delimitation exercise, Pilot is all set to play an active role in state politics.
Congress sources said the high command has already decided to field Sachin from the newly created Deoli-Uniara assembly segment in Tonk district. Sonia Gandhi on Monday had kickstarted the party's election campaign from Deoli.
The Deoli-Uniara assembly segment has a good number of both Gujjars and Meenas. Congress has decided to field Sachin from this constituency because he, like his late father Rajesh Pilot, enjoys goodwill among both the Gujjars (his own community) and the Meenas. "The high command has decided to assign important tasks to Sachin and fielding him in the assembly polls is a step taken in the same direction," said a senior party leader.
Sources said that even state Congress deputy leader, Ram Narayan Meena, was seeking a ticket from the Deoli-Uniara constituency after the abolition of the Nainwa constituency in Bundi district. Meena, at present, is MLA from the Nainwa assembly segment. But there was every indication during Sonia's rally that the Deoli seat would go to Pi-lot and not Ram Narayan Meena. Pilot was even allowed to speak at the meet.
