RU students seek alumni network to boost career
Jaipur: Students from Rajasthan University are raising a demand for an alumni network to help them with guidance and support in their careers. Since there is no such network yet, there is no scope for interaction with the alumni, said students.“Students of the department of commerce are aimless and most of them seek placements which the college does not provide. An alumni network can help them engage more with the industry and boost their career growth,” said Krishnakumar Meena from the department of commerce.Another student, Kush Kumar Sharma said, “There are many alumni from the Rajasthan University who are currently working as IAS officers, RAS officers and politicians. If there is a gathering of alumni every six months, the students will be able to benefit a lot from it. They will be motivated when they will learn about the stories of such people. Interacting with alumni can help students get guidance in study materials and how to prepare for such exams.”Students said that they would like to attend more guest lectures conducted by alumni. “We also hope that our dancers and singers who do not have a platform right now can seek help from their alumni. If there is an alumni event hosted by the University, they should put it up on their notice boards so that every interested student can attend it," added Sharma.Anil Jain, a former student of the university said, “If the University introduces an alumni network students will prefer to take career counselling from there the most. Since I graduated, I have had no contact with the University to form a network.”Professor Rashmi Jain, head of the department of sociology, said, “We made many attempts to establish an alumni network, but unfortunately none of them was successful because the students did not show interest initially. We even hosted some online sessions during the lockdown, however, due to lack of interactions by the students we could not continue it. If the students ask, then we will try to work on it.”
