JAIPUR: The chief returning officer for the RU students union polls, Prof Ramesh Dadhich, resigned from his post late on Saturday after serious differences cropped up among the faculty members over failure to deploy adequate policemen on the campus. However, the resignation is yet to be accepted by vice-chancellor A D Sawant who assured Dadhich of strengthening the security and banning the entry of outsiders on the campus from Monday.
Dadhich's resignation came during a meeeting of grievance and rules interpretation committee, presided over by Sawant and dean, students welfare, Jitendra Prasad to discuss the candidature of of 18 students, who failed to submit the required documents.
Criticising police and university administration for not sealing the university campus, Dadhich said in the meeting that he was resigning as concerned authorities failed to implement the directions issued by him. He took the decision after a group of students, mostly outsiders, stormed the DSW office demanding to clear all nomination forms.
As per the rule, candidates have to submit two attested documents of their age proof and marksheet of last examination along with original documents. DSW Jitendra Prasad had cancelled the nomination of 18 candidates as they failed to meet the requirements but were later cleared by the committee.
He also expressed dissatisfaction over grievance and rules interpretation committee's decision to clear the nomination of all candidates on the ground that their respective department heads have already cleared their candidature. The meeting started at 7 pm and lasted till 2 am.
After cancellation, the candidates had appealed to the grievance and rules interpretation committee to look into the matter. "Already, the nomination was delayed by four days thus giving less time to election officials to process the forms," said a committee member.
