Routine health camp saves 9-month-old in Bassi with free heart surgery
Jaipur: A health screening camp held under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) in Bassi helped save the life of a nine-month-old child after doctors detected symptoms of congenital heart disease during examination.
The child, Chitransh, son of farmer Hanuman Prasad Bairwa from Chatarpura village in Bassi block, was unwell since birth. During a health screening camp organised on May 1 by the RBSK Mobile Health Team, doctors noticed signs of a serious heart condition. After a medical consultation, the team referred him to a private hospital in Jaipur and assured the family that the treatment would be provided free of cost under the scheme.
Dr Manish Mittal, chief medical health officer, Jaipur (II), said Chitransh was admitted to the hospital on May 6. The doctors conducted a 2D Echo examination, which confirmed that the infant had a hole in his heart. Following the diagnosis, doctors carried out surgery successfully on May 7. After post-operative monitoring and medical supervision, the child was discharged on May 8.
Doctors said timely screening and referral under RBSK were crucial in identifying the condition early and ensuring immediate treatment. The case highlighted the importance of regular health screening camps in rural areas, where many families may not have easy access to specialist medical care. Chitransh is now healthy, bringing major relief to his family.
