JAIPUR: Residents of Ganesh Nagar and Radha Nikunj of Mansarovar are living under constant fear of being attacked by dogs. Following the death of an eight-year-old boy who succumbed to dog bite, residents are contemplating to protest against it.
The residents of the area claimed that it was not the first time such incident has happened. At least four children from the area have survived dog attacks recently. The Times of India had highlighted the plight of the people of the area in its May 13 edition in a story published, ‘Canine menace: Residents go to police station to file complaint’.
“At that time, when my six-year-old son was attacked by dog, we (residents of the area) went to the Muhana Mandi police station complaining against dog menace, but we did not receive any satisfactory reply. Police told us that it was an issue that needs to be handled by Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC),” said Ashish Chhabra, a resident of Ganesh Nagar. He claimed that they have complained against dog menace in the area to

on several occasions, but all their pleas fell on deaf ears.
“These dogs have become dangerous as they attack children. They target kids and attack them on their neck, head or face. Something should be done to prevent the menace of these dogs to save kids,” said Ravi Shankar Sharma, uncle of the boy who died.
However, JMC expressed helplessness on the issue. “There are animal birth control (dogs) rules 2001 effective in the state. Under these rules, we can only pick up the dogs from an area, sterilise them and place them back in the same area. We cannot relocate them to other areas. So whenever we receive complaints against dog menace, we have a system in place to address them,” said a JMC official.
