Residents protest outside PHED office over water crisis

Jaipur: As the city continues to battle rising temperatures, residents in several colonies of Kho Nagoriyan have been struggling with severe water shortage for the past seven days. In many homes, taps are either running dry or receiving only a poor supply, forcing families to depend on private water tankers for daily needs.

Angry over the prolonged disruption, residents on Sunday staged a protest outside the PHED office in the area. People from colonies including Mohammad Nagar, Madina Nagar and Gandhi Vihar took part in the demonstration and accused officials of ignoring repeated complaints.

Residents said the affected areas receive water through the Bisalpur pipeline network, but supply has remained extremely low for the last week. In several localities, water has not reached households at all.

Local resident Salim Umrideen said people were arranging tankers on their own as officials were not responding to their concerns. “We have been suffering for days. We are spending money on tankers, but nobody is listening to us,” he said.

Another resident, Akbar, said the situation becomes worse every summer despite people regularly paying water bills. “In this heat, surviving without proper water supply is becoming difficult. Every year we face the same issue,” he said.

Former councillor Chhotu Ram Meena, who also joined the protest, said residents were complaining continuously for several days, following which the protest was organised outside the PHED office. He said assistant engineer Abhay Singh Meena later met the protesters and assured them that the issue would be resolved within seven days.

Assistant engineer Abhay Singh Meena said the extreme heat had reduced water pressure and flow in several areas, affecting supply. He said efforts were being made to restore normal supply within a week.
