Rathore reminds Gehlot of ‘punishment for mistake’

Jaipur: A day after chief minister Ashok Gehlot's statement that recommending retired Col Kesari Singh for appointment as RPSC member was his mistake, opposition leader Rajendra Rathore quoted one of Gehlot's own slogans to attack him on Saturday.The BJP leader wrote on X, “Every mistake demands punishment... for how long you will keep making mistakes after mistakes, chief minister. Sir, you made a mistake by appointing corrupt RPSC member Babulal Katara. Similarly, you made a mistake by appointing DP Jaroli, whom you had to dismiss (following REET paper leaks).”Rathore asked what the Gehlot-government’s compulsion was in making these appointments hurriedly. “On one hand, there seemed to be a model code of conduct, while on the other hand, you were distributing the spoils of appointments by misusing the constitutional mechanisms to achieve political objectives. Rajasthan asks, what was such compulsion?”asked Rathore.RPSC member Singh, however, did not respond to phone calls for his reaction on Saturday. He has been accused of making controversial statements against other communities. Appointment of Singh and two others as RPSC members was cleared on October 9, just hours before election dates for the five poll-bound states were announced by the election commission. The three joined the office before the election code of conduct came into force that day. RPSC being a constitutional body, Singh’s appointment can now be reversed only by the President of India.Jat Mahasabha president Rajaram Meel demanded the state government to act and remove Kesari Singh from the post. Meel, who wrote to the governor to remove Singh from the post, said on X, “The government appointed Kesari Singh as RPSC member, but the Chief Minister has given a statement to the media that he wanted to call Kesari Singh and talk but he is not coming.”Meel added, “Our reason for concern seems to be proved right to a great extent that if so much arbitrariness has started from now, how much more arbitrariness will be done in RPSC in the future? It is dangerous to hasten the appointment in constitutional institutions.”
