Rajasthan: Man declared dead wakes up before cremation, 3 doctors suspended

NEW DELHI: A deaf and mute 25-year-old man, Rohitash Kumar, who was pronounced deceased by medical staff in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, showed signs of life just before his cremation.

This incident led to the suspension of three doctors.

Kumar, a resident of a shelter home with no family, was promptly returned to the district hospital's intensive care unit, where he is currently receiving treatment. Officials confirmed his condition is now stable.

Following this instance of alleged medical negligence, district collector Ramavtar Meena suspended Dr. Yogesh Jakhar, Dr. Navneet Meel and PMO Dr. Sandeep Pachar on Thursday night.

The district collector established an investigative committee and notified the medical department secretary about the incident.

Police reports indicate that Kumar was taken to the emergency department of BDK Hospital in Jhunjhunu on Thursday when his health deteriorated.

After Kumar became unresponsive to treatment, the hospital doctors declared him dead at 2pm and placed his body in the mortuary.

The police completed the necessary documentation and transported the body to a crematorium.

Just as the body was positioned on the funeral pyre, Kumar began showing signs of breathing, according to police reports.
An ambulance was immediately summoned, and Kumar was transported back to the hospital.

Subsequently, Revenue officer Mahendra Mund and Deputy Director of Social Justice Department Pawan Poonia visited the hospital.
