JAIPUR: Denying claims of the opposition that Dholpur City Palace is a government property, Rajasthan state BJP unit accused Congress of attempting to malign the image of chief minister Vasundhara Raje.
BJP state president Ashok Parnami and state parliamentary affairs minister Rajendra Singh Rathore held a press conference and “presented” documents related to a union government's general administration department (GDA) notification, a court order and the records of local Dholpur municipality to claim that the property belonged to state chief minister Vashundhara Raje's estranged husband Hemant Singh.

Its ownership was then handed over to their son Dushyant Singh through court settlement after a three-decade-long legal battle.
As per the documents, copies of which were not provided to the media, the GDA had issued a notification in June 1956 in which it was stated that Hemant Singh was given ownership of Dholpur City Place that has now been converted into a luxury hotel, when the government acquired Kesarbagh, another royal property, in Dholpur.
Another document "shown" to the media by Parnami was a mutual understanding agreement reached in a Dholpur court in 2007 which the son Dushyant agreed to forgo his rights over properties in Delhi while father Hemant gave up Dholpur properties. According to Parnami, when the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) acquired a part of royal property for construction of a national highway, Dushyant Singh was given compensation to the tune of Rs 1.97 crore.
"It was Congress government in state and in the center at that time. If Dushyant Singh was not the owner, then how he was given the compensation," asked Parnami.
