Raj seeks more IPS officers after formation of new dists
Jaipur: The Rajasthan police is seeking to increase the number of Indian Police Service (IPS) officers in response to the state government’s decision to create new districts. The officials said that Rajasthan Police recently requested the government to expand the IPS cadre in the state by adding 19 new IPS officers. There are about 200 IPS officers, including those on central deputation, in Rajasthan. However, the proposed expansion of the IPS cadre is also warranted by the increasing number of operational requirements and changing landscape in the state.A senior police official said that the proposed establishment of new districts needs more resources even when there is already a shortfall.“There are already new OSDs in 15 newly announced districts; we also need additional IPS officers for other assignments,” said an official. In the future, Rajasthan Police seeks to introduce the police commissionerate system in other large cities, which may also require new IPS officers."Some IPS officers also go on deputation postings, which creates a dearth of resources for us. We are planning to increase our areas to bolster law and order in the coming days," said an official.According to sources, significant changes are expected in the police areas of Rajasthan once the notification for new districts is confirmed.“Existing police districts could be amalgamated or bifurcated, resulting in similar changes. As a result, there will be a pressing need for additional officers in Rajasthan,” the official said.In addition to regular field postings, the Rajasthan police also operates specialized units such as the anti-corruption bureau, special operations groups, anti-terrorist squad, intelligence, and CID-CB. These units play crucial roles in maintaining law and order, combating corruption, and ensuring the safety of the public.
