Raj ranks 10th in mumps cases nationally

JAIPUR: With 845 mumps cases reported between April 2023 and March 2024, Rajasthan is 10th on the list of states that reported the highest number of such cases, says a report issued by the Union govt in April.

The report said that five people died of mumps and 62,406 cases were reported in 2023-24 in the country. Kerala is at the top of the list with one death and 30,939 cases, followed by Maharashtra with one death and 54,65 cases, Karnataka 5,225 cases, Gujarat one death and 4,701 cases and Assam 1,837 cases.

A health department official said the department has identified districts worst affected by mumps. Most cases have been reported in Jodhpur, Kota, Banswara, Baran, Hanumangarh, Udaipur, Barmer, and Nagaur.

The health department will also spread awareness among children in schools, including private schools, to protect them from mumps. The department has written a letter to the education department to disseminate guidelines to schools. tnn
