Raj captain Menaria moves to Haryana
Jaipur: The Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) has received another jolt as seasoned batter Ashok Menaria is leaving the state to move to Haryana for the upcoming domestic season 2023-24. The left-hand batter from Udaipur, who was the captain of the side from the past three years, obtained the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from RCA on Tuesday. Just 10 days back it was Jodhpur leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi who switched to Gujarat. “Haryana Cricket Association (HCA) director of coaching Ashwini Kumar called me after the 2022-23 season and told me that they are interested in having me in their side. I also had a word with Anirudh Chaudhry and he told me that they wish to have me in the core leadership group. He asked me to consider the proposition and after consulting a few close people, I decided to move to Haryana as a professional,” Menaria told TOI. Chaudhry is a former BCCI treasurer and has a stronghold in Haryana cricket. The 32-year-old refused to comment on what triggered him to leave his home state. “I am thankful to RCA for taking good care of me whenever I was injured. In all these years they have ensured I always got the best treatment,” he added. If sources are to be believed, Menaria was unhappy with the RCA management and the selection committee.Menaria represented Rajasthan for 15 years after making his First Class debut in 2008. The 32-year-old has played 88 First Class games, 102 List A matches and 72 T20s for the state. The southpaw was a central figure in the team and was also in the leadership group from the last many years. Menaria was also the highest run-getter with 373 runs in three games, which included three centuries, for Rajasthan in the Super League stage when they won their maiden Ranji title in 2010-11.The veteran from Udaipur said that HCA has shared with him the roadmap of how the management wishes to prepare for the upcoming domestic season. “The team is already done with two camps and more activity is lined up as Haryana gears up for the 2023-34 season. They have a proper plan in place and I am looking forward to being a part of such an organised squad,” he added.
