Quick-thinking BJP functionary rescues two from burning car

Jaipur: Tension gripped Jaipur’s Muhana area Sunday night after a moving petrol car suddenly caught fire, trapping two men inside when its doors locked automatically. A major tragedy was averted after BJP functionary and Sanganer BJP Mandal president Sunil Sharma helped rescue the two by breaking the vehicle’s window glass with the help of the locals.

Police said the incident occurred around 9:30 pm near Muhana Mod when the car, which was coming from Ajmer, suddenly started emitting smoke before coming to a halt on the road. “Soon after stopping, the vehicle’s doors got locked, trapping the occupants inside. One of the men was reportedly dropping his friend, a student in Jaipur, in Malviya Nagar,” said a police officer Monday.

According to the police, Sunil Sharma, a BJP functionary of the area, noticed the youths struggling inside the smoke-filled car. He immediately rushed to the spot and, along with nearby residents, smashed the window glass and safely pulled them out moments before the fire intensified.

On receiving information, Muhana police and a fire brigade team reached the spot. Traffic was briefly halted while firefighters battled the blaze for around 10 minutes before bringing it under control. The car was completely destroyed in the fire.
