Pvt CBSE school closes due to financial issues in Jaipur
Jaipur: The Tree House High School, a CBSE-affiliated private school in Shyam Nagar with classes up to 10, has informed parents that it is shutting down because of financial difficulties and will refund fees collected for the 2026-27 academic session. The announcement triggered protests by parents Wednesday and Thursday after they learnt the school was closing without prior notice. Parents said the timing had left them scrambling for admissions elsewhere after the academic session had already begun. In a statement issued Thursday, the school said, "With profound regret and after exhaustive deliberation that the management is constrained to inform you of the voluntary closure of this school. The reasons for this deeply difficult decision are principally financial in nature." The administration said it is involved in an unresolved dispute over lease rental obligations, "which have grown to an extent that is no longer sustainable for the institution or the Trust." It also cited a steady decline in student enrolment. The school currently has more than 200 students enrolled. A public notice put up by the building owner's lawyer outside the school mentioned that the school was due to pay rent since Jan 2025 amounting to over Rs 4. 21 crore. The school said all fees paid for the current academic session, including tuition fees, development fees, annual charges and any other fee, would be refunded in full to parents and guardians. It added that transfer certificates and leaving certificates would be issued to every student. "We are fully committed to ensuring that not a single child suffers any disruption to their education. The school has compiled a list of reputed CBSE-affiliated schools in and around Jaipur. Our counsellors and administrative team are available to personally assist every family in identifying the most suitable school for their child based on their location, class, and requirements," the statement said. Despite the assurance, parents said the lack of advance warning had created uncertainty for families seeking immediate alternatives. Parents have decided to meet the district education officer on Friday to discuss the closure and seek help in securing admissions in other schools. "The school is giving refund and other documents but if the school was heading towards a financial problem, it should have informed parents on time, so that we could find alternatives on time. Right now, getting our child admitted to any school will be difficult," said Nishrin, whose son studies in Class 6 at the school. Abhishek Jain, spokesperson of Sanyukt Abhibhavak Sangh, a body of aggrieved parents in the city, said, "Strict guidelines must be issued to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future. Shutting down a school without prior notice is not fair to parents and children. Even though refund is being given, but children will have to face the loss."
