JAIPUR: The police on Wednesday made one more arrest in connection with the murder of Priya Rathore, who was killed by her parents for having an affair with a Jat boy.
According to sources, Prithvi Singh, uncle of the victim, was arrested on the basis of information provided by Priya's father Bhawani Singh during interrogation.
Priya (20) was killed and her body quietly cremated by her family members in Tripali Badi village of Churu district on Monday.
However, the matter came to light when police arrested her father Bhawani Singh Rathore and mother Santosh Kanwar.
She had an affair with Suraj Kumar of Jhunjhunu district, with whom she had eloped in 2008. The two were later traced by the police. The family members were annoyed after she refused to marry an Ahmedabad-based man last year. She then fled with Suraj in June and started living with him in Jaipur. On Monday night, she had a heated argument with her parents after which they first strangulated her and cremated her body.
SHO, Hamerwas police station, Mahendra Dutta Sharma told TOI that Prithvi Singh was arrested on the basis of information provided by deceased's father Bhawani Singh during interrogation. According to sources, Bhawani Singh told police that Prithvi was present with them when they strangulated their daughter.
Sharma also said that Prithvi Singh will be produced in court along with Bhawani Singh, who is in police custody for two days. The deceased's mother Santosh Kanwar has been sent to judicial custody for 15 days.
