PM spotlights Sikar kidney recipient in Mann Ki Baat
Jaipur: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi putting the spotlight on Sikar's Ramdev Singh to highlight the importance of organ donation, the kidney transplant recipient who returned to normal life and excelled at international transplant sports events has now flagged what he calls the lack of financial support from the govt for transplant games."Just like there are federations for Olympics and Paralympics, which provides financial support to the sports persons, there is no such federations for transplant games and sportsperson who plays transplant games. The NGOs are supporting the transplant games and help the sportspersons to travel to other countries for taking part in the international transplant games," Singh told TOI.
A resident of Sikar, Singh, a technician in the electricity department at Salasar, received a kidney transplant from his mother in 2012. He said he had earlier suffered a serious stomach problem that led to kidney failure, and that it took about a year to fully recover. He worked as a technician at Jodhpur Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited and continued playing sports."As an enthusiastic athlete, I have participated twice in the National Transplant Games held in Mumbai. The first time I won several medals including gold and silver, and the second time he won two silver medals. I took part in the World Transplant Games held in Dresden in 2025, where I represented India and won gold medal in javelin throw, silver medal in long jump, and bronze medals in ball throw and discus throw," he said.Singh said he is preparing for the transplant games in Belgium in 2027 and appealed for govt backing. "Now I am preparing for transplant games in Belgium to be held in 2027. But, just like other transplant sportsperson, I am also appealing to the Centre to provide financial support and recognisation to the transplant games."
