Pilot's yatra call before K'taka polls inappropriate: Randhawa

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Congress in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Saturday said former deputy CM Sachin Pilot announcing his yatra just before the Karnataka assembly elections was "inappropriate" and that a meeting of party functionaries from the state will be convened in Delhi soon to discuss pertinent issues. Randhawa said this to reporters upon his arrival here to attend the death anniversary of former PM Rajiv Gandhi on May 21.

On May 9, a day before Karnataka elections, Pilot had announced at a press conference that he would start his five-day 'Jan Sangharsh Yatra' from Ajmer to Jaipur on May 11 to demand inquiry into the alleged corruption during the previous Vasundhara Raje government and also a proper probe into repeated leaking of question papers for government job recruitment exams. His yatra ended on May 15, with Pilot warning of launching a state-wide protest if his demands were not met by May 30.

"I support the youth who had to suffer because of paper leaks, but a Congress leader taking out a yatra against his own government during a crucial election was inappropriate," he said, adding, "Going directly to the press without discussing the issues with party leaders is not good for the party."

"The ultimatum (of Pilot) is to Congress president (Mallikarjun) Kharge, and he should talk to Kharge," said Randhawa. "He (Pilot) never talked to me on the issue of a probe into the previous BJP government's corruption. If he provides any proof of corruption, we would get it investigated even now," he added.
