PHED secretary warns officials of water supply disruption

JAIPUR: Rajat Kumar Mishra, principal secretary, PHED pulled up officials of the department for disruption in water supply from the Bisalpur Dam in some parts of Jaipur city on last Friday and warned them of serious action if it is repeated.
Many areas in the city had to go without water supply from Bisalpur Dam due to a technical snag at the pump house. He also directed the officials to put in an alternative system in place to meet such exigencies in future.
At a meeting with the officials of Jaipur circle of PHED and Bisalpur Dam project, he directed the officials to conduct the repair works of the system on time to minimize such incidents in future.

The officials apprised Mishra of efforts made to maintain the water supply in the Walled City areas despite the adverse situation and said in order to bring the supply to normal there is a need for shutdown of the whole system which might cause disruption.
Mishra said it is necessary to take effective measures so that such incidents could be avoided. He suggested a plan for ‘preventive maintenance’ be put in place in the next three months.
It may be noted that after taking charge of the department recently he had visited the Surajpura filter plant and Bisalpur pumping station a few days back.
About 540 mld of water from Bisalpur Dam is supplied daily to Jaipur. Transfer system takes up water from transmission system which brings water from Bisalpur Dam to Balawala, a place 16 kms south of Jaipur, and transfers water to 65 distribution centres scattered across the city.
