JAIPUR:
Irshad Khan,
son
of
Pehlu Khan
, who was lynched by a mob on the suspicion of
cow smuggling
in Alwar’s Behror, was unaware about state government's move to bring a law to protect a person from getting lynched.
On being informed, he welcomed it and said, “The law should ensure stringent action against the guilty with a minimum punishment of life imprisonment”.
Pehlu Khan and his sons were thrashed by a mob on Aprli 1, 2017. Khan died at a hospital in Alwar on April 3. Eight men accused of thrashing Pehlu Khan to death are out on bail and two of them have escaped.
“Mujhe toh koi jankari nahi hai. Humari toh gawahi chal rahi hai us case mai...humare abba ke case mai..usi tarikh se wapas aa raha hoon (I am not aware of it. Our testimony is going on in my father's case. Just returning from there)," said Irshad when asked about the
anti-mob lynching bill
being introduced in the assembly.
"The government should bring a law and stop the incidents of mob lynching. Our person got killed and they lodged a chargesheet against us. How can they do this? The manner in which these incidents are taking place, the convicts should get a minimum punishment of life imprisonment," he said.
Asked if he advocated death sentence, Khan said, "In most of the murder cases, there is life imprisonment. Be it life imprisonment or death sentence (in case of lynching or murder), it is the same thing. The manner in which people are taking law into their hands to lynch a person and go scot-free, the government should frame a law and take stringent action against them. It is a good thing that the government is framing a law to bring an end to these incidents.
