ED officers stated that Saran was arrested on a production warrant from Ajmer’s high-security jail and would be in 3-day custody of the ED.

The arrest of Saran came almost a month after suspended RPSC member Babulal Katara and another man, Anil Kumar alias Sher Singh Meena, were arrested in a similar case by the ED. According to sources, Saran’s arrest was made on the basis of interrogation of Katara by the ED.

“We will question him (Saran) on various aspects of the case, including where the ill-gotten money was invested,” said a senior ED officer.

ED officers added that their focus is on finding out who got the leaked papers and how much money was made by the accused, including Katara, and Saran. They said that Katara leaked the question papers and sold it to Meena who further supplied them to Saran, Suresh Dhaka and other agents. “The arrest was inevitable as he is part of the nexus that obtained the leaked paper, supplied it to candidates, and charged money,” said an ED officer.

The ED investigation has so far revealed that at least 180 candidates were given the question papers for Rs 8 lakh to Rs 10 lakh each. “Our focus is to recover all the laundered money,” the officer said.
