Pawan, who was working as a lower division clerk at the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) office in Suratgarh town in Sriganganagar, was arrested by the special operations group on Monday on charges of spying for Pakistan.
Pawan Sharma has been sent to Jaipur for further interrogation after police registered a case against him.
Paswan's phones were being taped for some time. "On Monday morning he got a call from Pakistan for the latest strategic news but Sharma informed he was in Mankasar and would talk on reaching his office," sources said.
However, security agencies became alert and set up a trap to nab him red-handed. Around 2 pm, Sharma again received a call from Pakistan and when he was passing on some crucial information, security agencies and Sriganganagar police team caught him.
During interrogation at DSP's office in Suratgarh, Sharma admitted that he was passing information to foreign agencies, particularly on the movement of the Army and the wargames.
SP Rupindra Singh said Pawan Sharma, a resident of ward No. 21 of Suratgarh, was appointed as clerk on compassionate grounds after death of his father. But he came in contact with Pakistan spy network about a year back.
"An amount of Rs 5,000 has also been deposited in his bank account from Pakistan. Besides this, his mobile phone had been recharged with Rs 1,000 on four occasions," he said. Further investigation of his bank accounts, house and past records is on.
