Out-of-control tractor-trolley leaves woman dead, nephew critical in Jaipur
Jaipur: A 60-year-old woman was killed and her 28-year-old nephew critically injured after an out-of-control tractor-trolley ran them over near Nindar Mod in Harmada Friday evening, police said. The deceased was identified as Nanki Devi (60), a resident of Nindar Mod, while the injured is her nephew, Mukesh Sain (28). According to Harmada police, the duo had left home with a relative to attend a wedding and were standing by the roadside waiting for a bus when the accident occurred.
Officials said a stone-laden tractor-trolley coming from Todi Mod allegedly swerved while trying to avoid a car approaching from the opposite direction. The sudden manoeuvre caused the driver to lose control, and the vehicle hit Nanki and Mukesh. After running them over, the tractor-trolley rammed into a motorcycle and a firecracker stall before crashing into two electricity poles and coming to a halt. The incident triggered panic in the area as locals rushed to help the injured. With the assistance of bystanders, police shifted both victims to SMS Hospital. Nanki succumbed to her injuries during treatment Friday night, while Mukesh remains admitted in critical condition. The driver fled the spot, abandoning the vehicle. Police seized the tractor-trolley and launched a search to trace and arrest him. A post-mortem was conducted Saturday morning and the body handed over to the family. "The driver fled from the scene. We are trying to locate him with the help of CCTV. A case of rash and reckless driving has been registered. Further investigation is under way," an official said.
