Nine months on, two nabbed in Jhotwara CA murder case

JAIPUR: Nearly nine months after a 26-year-old chartered accountant (CA) was shot dead in a gangland style hit, hardly 200 metres away from Jhotwara police station, the city police has arrested two accused for the alleged murder. Police are still calling it a case of road rage rather than a planned hit as alleged by deceased Amar Sharma's family.

Since last July, the family has been running from pillar to post to bring the accused to book. Sharma's brother said they were still not satisfied with the investigation and police was in a rush to close the case. The two arrested accused have been identified as Faizan Khan (23) and Shahwaz Qureshi, both natives of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. The two had allegedly shot Sharma on the night of July 26, 2018, and the incident was captured on

CCTV

cameras.

Additional commissioner Lakshman Gaur said, "both the accused were arrested from UP. Through their two-wheeler and the CCTV footage we identified the accused. As per their mobile call records, they were traced in UP and thereafter arrested."

According to the officials, Qureshi and Khan had landed in Jaipur a day before the alleged crime with the intention of carrying out robberies in Jhotwara where they were staying with an acquaintance. They were in possession of a country-made pistol. On the night of the said incident, both the accused were riding on a two-wheeler on wrong side of the road in an intoxicated state. They stopped Sharma who was going home on his bike and tried to snatch his mobile phone.

On facing resistance, they shot him in the neck. Following this, they fled and threw his phone in an empty plot after breaking it.
