Jaipur: The NIA has arrested a 19-year-old Udaipur resident Mohammad Javed, the eighth man to be taken into custody, for the beheading of tailor Kanhaiya Lal at the latter’s shop ‘Supreme Tailors’ on June 28.
The agency arrested Javed on Thursday. He is accused of playing an important role in the conspiracy to kill Lal by conducting a recce and passing information about the victim’s presence in his shop to main killer Mohammad Riyaz prior to the gruesome attack.
The accused is a resident of Udaipur’s Kheradiwala area and worked at a jewellery shop in the same Maldas Street where Lal ran his tailoring shop.
Investigators suspect that the accused had tipped off the killers that Lal was inside his shop.
The NIA so far arrested a total of eight people for Lal’s murder. Besides two main killers Gaus Mohammad, Mohammad Riyaz, the other suspects are Farhad Mohammad Sheikh alias Babla, Mohsin Khan, Asif Hussian, Mohammad Mohsin, Wasim Ali and Javed.
Besides Javed, the rest of the seven accused are in judicial custody. They were moved to a high security prison in Ajmer.
Initially, the investigators had believed the murder to be a ‘lone wolf’ attack. Subsequent probe, however, suggested that proper planning with several rounds of recces by multiple suspects preceded Lal’s murder inside his shop in Bhoot Mahal area near Maldas Street.
