JAIPUR: Rajasthan is yet to transfer an
alternate land to NHAI
for removing
encroachments by auto workshops
and
illegal parking of trucks
on the main carriageway that contracts
three-lane road
into a single track at Shahpura, on Jaipur-Gurgaon stretch of NH-8.
NHAI deposited Rs 9.80 crore in the accounts of state government in March 2017 for a 14 hectare of land near Manoharpur toll plaza, 10 km from Shahpura. Authority has planned to develop this land as ‘highway facility’ providing an option for shop owners to relocate there.
“A patch of 14 hectare has been lying vacant which is in possession of a local panchayat at Manoharpur toll plaza. The land is earmarked for the highway facility. It is sufficient to shift all shops from Shahpura, saving their livelihood and also to build rest rooms, dormitories for drivers and food joints,” said an official of NHAI.
“But state government has not handed over the land to us despite depositing the money they asked for in March. Unless it is handed over to us we can demacrate and appoint consultatn to develop it ” added the official.
As per the plans each shopkeeper would be given option to buy space from National Highway Authority of India. Those who are willing can shift there as shops will be demolished as part of the project. Shahpura has earned a bad name in widening of Jaipur-Gurgaon stretch. Close to 100 trucks are parked on the main road each day which leads to traffic snarl.
This impasse has happened even when Union minister for road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari has requested Rajasthan chief minister, Vasundhara Raje and her government’s cooperation.
Officials claim that Shahpura remains a major stumbling block for the authorities to cut short the travel time by three hours between Jaipur and Gurgaon. Long traffic snarls can be witnessed due to endless trucks parked on the highway.
