Multi-agency inspection finds sewage discharge polluting Dravyavati river

Jaipur: A joint inspection by Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) and Rajasthan Pollution Control Board has found multiple points along the 40-km Dravyavati River where untreated sewage is being discharged directly into the water, worsening pollution in the city's flagship river restoration corridor.The inspection was carried out Friday, after which officials said they would prepare an action plan to stop the violations and improve water quality.Speaking to TOI, a JDA official stated that in some adjacent areas, sewerage lines had been connected with the rainwater drainage pipes linked to the river. These unauthorized linkages had created two major problems: untreated sewage was flowing straight into the river, and the volume of wastewater entering the system had exceeded the handling capacity of the four sewage treatment plants built under Dravyavati River Rejuvenation Project."We have decided to carry out a detailed survey of these unauthorized sewerage lines and would disconnect them so that the entire bulk of the sewerage water gets treated," stated a JDA engineer.Authorities said one of the most serious contamination points has been identified along the stretch passing through Sushilpura. To tackle the additional 20 MLD sewage load from the area, JDA plans to lay pipelines and divert the wastewater to the old STP at Taruchhaya Nagar.Engineers said the issue must be resolved within the next three months.
