Marginal dip in cut-off marks of 2 Jaipur constituent colleges

JAIPUR: Rajasthan University’s (RU) two constituent colleges, Maharaja’s College and Maharani’s College, declared their first cut-off list on Tuesday. Both the colleges have witnessed a slight fall in the cut-off mark this year as compared with the previous year. The dip is attributed to less number of students who had scored in nineties in RBSE Class XII.

In Maharaja’s College, the cut-off in BCA and B.Sc fell to 2-3% compared to last year in both RBSE and CBSE boards. Similarly, the B.Sc (Pass Course) for Biology and Mathematics Group has shown a dip of 2% from last year.

“It is observed that the results of RBSE board went down as compared to previous year has resulted in decline in the cut-off,” said Rashmi Jain, vice-principal of Maharani’s College.

Another matter of concern is that there are very less number of students in the cut-off list from CBSE Board this time for which the reason of percentile system remains the same.

During the counselling sessions, students from CBSE were quite aware that admission in RU’s colleges has really become difficult. Hence, they did not apply here.

The second cut-off list is most likely to be released by June 24. The demand for increase in number of seats will only be raised after the release of second or third cut-off lists.

Meanwhile, student bodies have protested for increasing the seats by 10%. They contended that as the applications are quite high, it becomes the duty of the university administration to increase the number of seats.

Sources told TOI that number of seats will be increased only after students with high percentage did not get a chance to study in Rajasthan University.

“Generally, in the first cut-off list, 80% of seats are declared. But this time, exceptionally, the affiliated colleges of Rajasthan University have declared 90% of seats already,” said Jain. Since the students wait for the cut-offs of other universities and colleges as well, the seats from the first cut-off lists are often left vacant. Now, only 10% of seats are left for the admission in the respective colleges which will be declared in the further cut-off lists.

“The cut-offs for CBSE board pretty much remains the same as compared with last year and the argument for percentile formula remains constant and helpless,” added Jain. The document verification starts from 10 am on June 20 and the last date of fee deposition is June 22. The lists are now available on college website and notice board.
