Locust swarms reaches Jaipur

JAIPUR: Many areas in the

on Monday morning. The locust swarms which had entered the state in April 11 in western Rajasthan has been moving fast towards southern and eastern part of the state. It had so far covered over 50,000 hectares of land, says

According to

the agriculture department

locust have been moving fast south and eastern part of the state due to the hot westerly wind and in search of food. “Since it is not an agriculture season, the vegetation is very less. So the insects are moving fast towards other areas in search of food,” said state agriculture commissioner Dr Om Prakash.

He said the another reason being the anti-locust operation being carried out by the department at night. He said “We have been spraying insecticides at night on trees where the insects settle at night. While a large chuck was killed the remaining moves towards other areas, he said. According to the reports locust swarms have moved towards Dausa passing Jaipur.
