Lawyer's police remand extended
Jaipur: A local court on Tuesday extended by one day the police custody of Uday Sharma, who ran over three people sleeping on the foothpath in the Mansarovar area in the wee hours of Sunday.
"Sharma told us that he was coming from Vijay Path to Ganga Jamuna petrol pump, he was headed to Gujrar ki Thadi where he took a turn and drove back towards Nehru Nagar side, he also said he made a mistake and is sorry for what he has done," said Kamal Nayan, SHO, accident police station (Jaipur south).
At 1.30 am on Sunday, advocate Uday Sharma had run over three labourers who were sleeping on the footpath in the Mansarovar area. One person died in the accident and two others were severely injured.
The advocate, who was allegedly heavily drunk, tried to flee the spot, but was stopped by a flat tyre. He was caught by the police, hardly 100 metres away from the accident spot.
"After we told him about the accident and its result, Sharma accepted that he had made a mistake. We are still investigating the case for more details," Nayan said.
According to police, the incident took place at 1.30am when the accused, Uday Sharma, was returning from a party at his friend's house near Varun Path. Based on the breathalyzer check, the police had found that he had drunk eight times the permissible limit and had also lost his way.
"When he was brought to the police station, he misbehaved with the police and media. Only when he was made to realize the severity of the crime, he understood his mistake and expressed guilt," Nayan said.
