Jaisalmer: One labourer died of suffocation while two others fell unconscious while cleaning the pipe chamber of the CETP sewerage line in the third phase in the industrial area of Balotra City in Barmer on Saturday. One of the labourers has been referred to Jodhpur. After the incident, resentment spread among the sanitation personnel and they demonstrated at the incident spot. They alleged that the labourers were asked to clean the sewerage line without safety equipment.
According to the police, the chamber of the sewerage line was being cleaned when two labourers went into the chamber and started feeling suffocated due to the poisonous gas and fell unconscious.
When there was no voice from inside the chamber, the third labourer went into the chamber but he also fell unconscious.
People standing outside took the three labourers to the government hospital.
Pappu Singh (50), a resident of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, died while Magaram Jaat (40), a resident of Gida and Dilip Singh (19) were injured. Dilip Singh has been referred to Jodhpur.
According to eyewitnesses, the labourers got into the chamber to clean it without safety equipment due to which this incident took place. tnn
