JODHPUR: From securing 430th rank last year to making it to the top 25 in the prestigious
Union Public Service Commission examination, Jodhpur’s Namit Mehta caught everyone off-guard with his achievement.
Namit was eligible for an appointment to the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) last year but not satisfied with his performance; he decided to give it another shot.
A commerce postgraduate, a chartered accountant cum company secretary, Namit was initially not confident about pursuing a career in civil services.
His father
Kamal Mehta, a chartered accountant and an academician, helped Namit focus on making it to civil services.
“With the motivation of my father and wife, I could finally narrowed down my career choice to IAS and shifted to New Delhi for preparation,” an ecstatic Namit told TOI over phone from Chennai, where he is undergoing training as an IRS probationer.
Namit’s interest in public activities also motivated him to take up a career in the civil services.
“I was the senior vice president of the student union at Jai Narayan Vyas University, Jodhpur. I have always loved to engage in public interactions. As an administrative officer, I would want to serve people by holding frequent interactions with them as to know and understand their problems better,” said Namit.
