JMC inspection flags illegal demolition, orders action in walled city
Jaipur: The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has intensified action against illegal demolition of heritage structures and poor sanitation in the walled city. Divisional commissioner and JMC administrator V Saravana Kumar conducted an on-ground inspection Friday from Ajmeri Gate to the Kishanpole zone, where several violations were detected.
During the visit, areas such as Nataniyon ka Rasta, Chaura Rasta, Ladi Walo ka Rasta and Sokhiyon ka Rasta were found to have old heritage havelis being demolished without permission. Expressing displeasure, the divisional commissioner directed officials to take strict action under the rules to protect heritage structures and curb unauthorised demolition.
He also flagged the presence of garbage, debris and plastic waste in narrow lanes and ordered immediate improvement in sanitation.
JMC officials, including additional commissioner Praveen Kumar, DTP Rajesh Sharma and deputy commissioners Bijendra Singh and Seema Chaudhary, were present during the inspection. The commissioner also instructed officials to act firmly against illegal constructions in the heritage zone.
Following the inspection, a property at house number 1745 in Ladi Walo ka Rasta was sealed Saturday after an old haveli was demolished and construction began without approval. Authorities said multiple notices were issued earlier, but violations continued. Work at nearby sites was also halted, with a warning of strict legal action against unauthorised demolition and construction.
