JDA projects may miss poll deadline

Jaipur: Incessant rainfall since the wee hours of Saturday has made the engineers of Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) apprehensive about finishing projects before the assigned deadline. The apprehension is that these projects may not get completed in time so that the projects can be inaugurated before the forthcoming assembly elections.Engineers stated the problem is that there had been unexpected rainfall even during summer this year. The rainfalls during summer had invariably delayed the works of these ongoing projects. To add on, the incessant rainfalls on a few days during monsoon this year had further delayed the progress of these projects.“Normally, we follow a schedule for the entire years when during normal months we carry out all major works and assign a few works during the months of monsoon. The works we assign during the monsoon period can be done even during a rainfall. But, this year, unexpected rainfall happened during summer months and the rainfall during monsoon was so heavy on a few days that we had to keep the work completely shut,” said an engineer.JDA officials stated that barely two months is left for the projects to be completed so that the projects can be inaugurated. If election takes place according to the schedule, then no inauguration would be allowed likely after mid-October.“It means we had to wrap up these projects by end-September or latest by early October. Barely two months are left now. If such heavy rainfalls take place even for two to three more days, we are afraid we won’t be able to complete the projects by mid-October,” added another engineer. The ROB project in Jhotwara and the signal-free traffic projects at Laxmi Mandir Tiraha and Tonk Road-B2 Bypass are expected to be inaugurated by the current government.
