Jaisalmer: India’s victory in the Longewala Battle of 1971 in Jaisalmer is completing 51 years. Its anniversary will be celebrated as Parakram Divas on December 5.
Many programmes will be organised on this occasion at the military station in Jaisalmer.
There will be a grand band display, mixed martial arts, mallakhamb and Daredevil motorcycle team will give performances.
District collector Tina Dabi has appealed to the general public to take part in maximum numbers in the event.
Indian Army’s Konark Corps, Jodhpur, general officer commanding lieutenant general Rakesh Kapoor will pay tribute to the martyrs at the Longewala War Memorial. The celebrations are being held on the directions of Battle X Division GOC Major General Yogendra Singh Paul.
District collector Tina Dabi said that the event will remain open for the general public, and she has directed all the district level officers and employees to compulsorily attend the programme.
The collector has directed police, PHED and municipal council to deploy sufficient police force, arrange drinking water for the guests and set up mobile toilets. It is to be mentioned that the Longewala Battle between India and Pakistan in 1971 was one of the biggest and decisive wars which is registered in the golden words in the history. tnn
