JAISALMER: The state government on Saturday put

and Barmer on high alert following

locust

attack. The administration of both the districts has swung into action in curbing the menace.

After instruction from the government, the Barmer administration has attached 50 tractors and 20 campers with locust department.

Similarly, in Jaisalmer, 22

bolero

campers have been hired and given to locust department. The government has announced to give pesticides free of cost to farmers to destroy locusts.

Barmer collector Anshdeep said there is swarm of locusts in Sidwa, Chauhatan, Sheo and other areas of the district. The administration is making all efforts to control them. All revenue department personnel, agriculture supervisors have been directed to inform about locust attacks to the control rooms.

Collector said 50 tractors and 20 campers have been hired and attached with the locust control department so that locust control works get pace. On the other hand, in Jaisalmer district, there are swarms of locusts and locust control department in various areas is spraying pesticides in full capacity with 20 vehicles. The government has provided additional 10 vehicles to locust control department in Jaisalmer.

Jaisalmer collector Namit Mehta in a meeting with revenue and administrative officers and officers of other concerned departments asked to intensify the locust control work. Collector has ordered parwaris, village development officers, agri supervisors and others to compulsorily remain at headquarters and immediately inform locust control department, control rooms and other senior officers on locust attacks and will persuade farmers in their areas and ensure control of locusts.

He said, the subsidy for plant conservation chemicals has been doubled. The actual cost or Rs 1,000 per hectare whichever is less will be given. A farmer will be given subsidy up to maximum two hectares. Government will deposit the entire subsidy amount in farmer’s account. In the meeting, it was informed that locust control department will manage base camp on temporary basis at Fatehgarh and PTM circle and directions have been given to provide three vehicles for locust control. These vehicles will reach the spot in getting information and will start controlling locusts. Sufficient
