Jaipur sees hottest day since 2015
Almost every district recorded maximum temperature almost 5 degrees above normal. Most places in western Rajasthan witnessed severe heat wave conditions.
Though a dust storm and mild showers were witnessed in the evening at Jaipur, Dausa, Sikar and Jhunjhunu districts, it was not enough to provide relief from the searing heat.
People in Jaipur woke up to the warmest morning of the season so far as a minimum temperature of 31.6°C was recorded, 3.9 degrees above normal for this time of year. It was followed by the hottest afternoon of the season with maximum temperature of 45.9°C, which was 4.3 degrees above normal.
“The last time Jaipur witnessed 45.9 degrees Celsius was in 2015,” said an officer with the Met office, Jaipur.
On city roads, civic authorities continued to sprinkle water in the afternoon especially in the walled city areas. In the evening, scattered rainfall was witnessed but was not enough to be termed as respite. On Monday, a maximum temperature of 44°C is expected, the Met office said.
The continued rise in mercury also affected power supply as many districts witnessed abrupt power cuts.
The Met office in its forecast said that no major changes in weather conditions would be witnessed in the next few days, except a dip of about 1 degree Celsius in maximum and minimum temperatures.
