JAIPUR: Moderate to heavy showers continued at many places in eastern Rajasthan and some places in western Rajasthan on Monday. Met office said the ongoing spell of the monsoon will continue till Sept 10. A rainfall of 120mm was recorded in Jaipur, which was the highest in the state. Attributing the continued rainfall to active easterly winds and upper air cyclonic circulation, the Met office said that similar conditions will prevail in the state.

People in Jaipur witnessed heavy rainfall that started at 1am on Monday and continued till 4.30am. Mostly the eastern parts of Jaipur, including Jawahar Circle, Jagatpura, Malviya Nagar, and Mansarover, witnessed heavy rainfall. “The rainfall activity in Jaipur continued from 1 am to 4.30am. However, no rainfall was reported throughout the day in the city,” said an officer.

A rainfall of 120 mm was recorded in Jaipur till 8.30am. Also, moderate showers were witnessed at Dudu, Shahpura, Bassi, Tunga, and Bagru, mainly in the outskirts of Jaipur.

Jaipur was followed by Nasirabad (Ajmer), where a rainfall of 113mm was recorded, Thanagazi (Alwar) 77mm, Vijaynagar 71mm, Sajjangarh (Banswara) 47mm, Srinagar (Ajmer) 5mm, Kotkasim (Alwar) 45mm, and Bhinay (Ajmer) 37mm. Also, rainfall varying from 30mm to 10mm was recorded at several places in Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Bharatpur, and Kota divisions of the state.

Director of Jaipur Met office, Radhey Shyam Sharma said, “The monsoon is not yet over as for the next one week moderate showers will continue at the majority of the places in the state. Some isolated places are likely to witness heavy showers.”

Rajasthan, so far, has received an average rainfall of 568mm till Monday against an average rainfall of 380.1mm recorded till Sept 2, 2023. Bisalpur dam saw a continuous elevation in its water level. “The water level of the dam has now reached a height of 314.62metre against the full height of 315.50metre,” said an officer from water resources department at the dam.

Despite August's deficit, excess July rains have pushed the seasonal total to 2,412mm in Santacruz. Water stock in lakes is almost at the required level.
