Jaipur Range Police's QR code to alert highway users about accident black spots
Jaipur: In a first-of-its-kind road safety initiative, Jaipur Range Police has launched a QR code-based alert system to help commuters identify accident-prone black spots on highways across the Jaipur Range. The move aims to reduce road accidents and fatalities by making travellers more aware of high-risk stretches before they reach them. The QR code is likely to be displayed at toll plazas, police stations, transport hubs and public places so that maximum road users can access it.Jaipur Range Police comprises Jaipur, Dausa, Jhunjhunu, Alwar and Sikar districts of the state.Jaipur Range IG Rahul Prakash said that the QR code was developed using accident fatality data from the last three years. “Once scanned through a smartphone, the code opens a Google-based map highlighting black spots on highways under the Jaipur Range jurisdiction,” he told TOI on Monday. The digital map uses a colour-coded system to indicate the severity of accident risks at various locations. Three categories of spot indicators have been created based on deaths reported in road accidents over the last three years. The yellow marker represents a low-risk zone (C-Type), where fewer than 10 fatalities have been recorded.
The orange marker indicates a medium-risk zone (B-Type), where 10 to 20 deaths occurred in accidents. The red marker marks a high-risk zone (A-Type), where more than 20 fatalities have been reported due to road accidents.Officials said the QR code can be scanned by any commuter to access real-time awareness about dangerous stretches and take extra caution while driving. “We have developed this system for long-distance travellers, transporters, bus drivers and daily commuters using Jaipur highways,” he added.“By knowing in advance where accident-prone zones are located, drivers can reduce speed, stay alert, and avoid reckless driving,” he added.
