Jaipur: It is an unprecedented case within the annals of the city police's crime records. A
murder case has been solved and the perpetrator apprehended, yet the identity of the victim remains an enigma.
Now, a team of sketch artists and a special task force are on a quest to trace the family of the victim.
According to DCP (West) Amit Kumar, in 2022, the body of an unidentified young woman was discovered on Kalwar Road, her face mutilated beyond recognition.
A development transpired on June 5 during the investigation of a separate homicide case of a woman, where police arrested four individuals, including a woman, identified as Asha Ram (50), Rahul Agarwal (30), Sunil Swami (30), and Manisha alias Kanak (35). The investigation unravelled that the accused ran a prostitution ring and had brutally murdered two women who resisted sexual assault. Among the victims was the unidentified woman from Kalwar Road and another one from the Kardhani area. The police successfully identified one of the victims, whose body was found in Kardhani, linking her to the illicit prostitution network. However, the identity of the second woman, the faceless victim from Kalwar Road, continues to remain elusive to them.
Speaking to TOI, Kumar said that the police were able to arrest the accused for the Kalwad murder based on the forensic match of samples obtained from the women's clothes.
“This is a very important case for us. The victim is faceless; no one knows her identity. As a police team, we feel the onus on us that she should get justice, which is only possible when we are able to identify her. We have enough evidence to prosecute the accused, but it is also important her family is tracked,” he said.
The police said that the accused could not identify the woman either, and the reason behind that is that the accused trafficked women from all over the country for prostitution. The sketch artists are now being used to create a probable outline of her face after speaking to over two dozen persons who claimed to have seen her passing by before the crime.
