JAIPUR: As the Bisalpur Dam this year is filled up to its full capacity, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) has decided to increase the

water

supply in Jaipur,

Ajmer

and

Tonk

districts starting from September 1.

Principal secretary PHED, Sandeep Verma called a meeting at secretariat to review the status of water supply. He said that after good rain this year, expectations of people have increased. PHED officials have been asked to make a water supply plan of every month from September 2019 to August 2020. Verma even ordered to draft a plan for places in the above mentioned three districts where water has been supplied in more than 72 hours of gap. PHED is even considering making arrangements for Bisalpur water supply to Mawta, Amber.

Bisalpur Dam’s full capacity is 38.7 TMC and about 16.2 TMC water is supplied to Tonk, Jaipur and Ajmer districts. In the 16-year history of Bisalpur Dam, it has been full only five times.

In 2016, Bisalpur Dam overflowed, after which in 2017–2018, due to scarce rainfall, people had to suffer from acute water shortage. TNN
