JAIPUR: It’s war. Team Lalit Modi will take on Team C P Joshi on a turning pitch for the post of Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) president.
Union minister for rural development and panchayati raj C P Joshi reached Jaipur on Friday morning from Udaipur to file his nomination. Friday was the last day of nominations. Lalit Modi, the architect of the Indian Premier League who lost the RCA elections the last time, was not present himself.
His close aide Amin Pathan and Mehmood Abdi filed the nominations for the faction. While there were multiple nominations by them for other posts, the faction claiming support of 18 members filed only one nomination — that of Modi — for the post of president.
“From our side, he’ll be the only contender for the post of president and he will not back out of the contest under any circumstances,” said Abdi, who himself is contending for the post of executive committee member. For the eight posts the faction filed 29 nominations.
That this will be a fight taking on the hues of a Congress vs BJP slugfest was evident when a BJP MLA slapped a criminal case against Joshi on Friday. RCA rules state that a person cannot contest only if convicted.
Nathdwara MLA, Kalyan Singh of BJP, who defeated Joshi in the assembly elections last year by one vote, filed a criminal complaint against the minister in a special court in Udaipur challenging his election as treasurer of Rajsamand Cricket Association.
“His election is illegal and knowingly he has produced fake documents in the court and Kalyan Singh has filed a complaint for the same under section 13 1(D) of P C Act 1988, IPC section 420,465,468 and 471, in his complaint. Singh has requested the case to be handed over to the anti-corruption bureau for investigation,” said Ghulam Sabber, Singh’s advocate.
