Indian army conducts comprehensive review of battle axe division’s operational in Jaisalmer

JAISALMER: In a strong reaffirmation of the Indian Army’s commitment to operational excellence, Lt Gen AVS Rathee, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Konark Corps, carried out a comprehensive review of the operational preparedness of the prestigious Battle Axe Division.

The high-level inspection focused on assessing the division’s combat readiness, technological integration, and its capability to respond swiftly to emerging security challenges in a dynamic, multi-domain battlefield environment. Battle Axe Division GOC, Major General Aashish Khurana, was also present.


Officials said that during the review, Lt Gen Rathee was briefed on the formation’s ongoing modernisation initiatives, including the induction of niche technologies, deployment of advanced surveillance platforms, and implementation of key innovation projects aimed at enhancing combat effectiveness.

The Corps Commander appreciated the division’s proactive approach in adapting to the evolving requirements of modern warfare. He noted that future conflicts are likely to span multiple domains — land, air, cyber, and information — demanding seamless integration of advanced systems and real-time intelligence capabilities. The Battle Axe Division, he observed, has made significant strides in aligning its operational strategies with these emerging realities.

Lt Gen Rathee lauded the dedication, professionalism, and high morale of all ranks. He commended the troops for maintaining exceptional standards of training and preparedness, ensuring the formation remains combat-ready at all times.

Emphasising the guiding motto, “Steel Sharp – Future Ready – Mission First,” he exhorted personnel to continue striving for excellence and uphold the highest standards of mission readiness.

The review underlines the Indian Army’s sustained focus on modernisation, innovation, and operational preparedness to safeguard national security interests in an increasingly complex strategic environment.

Meanwhile, Lt Gen Rathee visited the Battle Axe Division during an intensive training exercise, “Sappers of Steel,” which showcased the troops’ role in bridging gaps and supporting decisive military operations. He reviewed the formation’s operational readiness and combat preparedness.

During the visit, Lt Gen Rathee was briefed on ongoing field training activities, with particular focus on combat engineering operations in challenging desert terrain. Major General Aashish Khurana was also present.

The exercise demonstrated the Sappers’ expertise in complex engineering tasks, including rapid mine-laying operations, obstacle creation, mobility support, and battlefield infrastructure development under simulated combat conditions.

Impressed by the professionalism displayed, the GOC commended all ranks for their precision, coordination, and technical proficiency. He particularly appreciated the seamless integration of niche technologies into conventional combat engineering roles, highlighting how innovation and adaptability enhance operational effectiveness on the modern battlefield.

The training also showcased the division’s ability to operate in harsh desert environments, maintaining tempo and accuracy despite extreme climatic conditions. From constructing defensive positions to ensuring swift mobility for mechanised forces, the Sappers reaffirmed their crucial role in enabling combat operations.

Lt Gen Rathee lauded the troops for their forward-looking approach and urged them to remain future-ready in the face of evolving security challenges. He emphasised the importance of continuous skill upgradation, technological adaptation, and adherence to the highest professional standards to maintain operational superiority.
