JAIPUR: In yet another incident of a daylight robbery, five armed men barged into a timber and plywood shop in the city’s Karni Vihar area on Saturday and decamped with over Rs 15.48 lakh after tying up the owner. ACP, Pramod Kumar Swami said five men on two bikes stormed into Agarwal Woods. They held a worker captive and pushed him towards a cubicle where the owner Vivek Saraogi was sitting behind his desk.
A visibly shaken Saraogi narrated his ordeal while showing injuries on his forehead. “The five suspects barged into my office around 11 am. They held a weapon up to my worker. They locked the door from inside and threatened to shoot me,” he said, adding that the accused drew out firearms and demanded keys to his office drawers.
“Even before I could give them keys they tied my hands. They took away all the cash but were still threatening us saying that they will shoot me. I said don’t kill us,” he said.
He said that the accused attacked him with a knife, leaving a wound on his forehead. “The gang left after trying me up and putting a tape across my mouth,” Saraogi said.
The workers said that one of the accused was wearing a cap, while another of the robbers had covered his face with a handkerchief. The suspects then sped off on their bikes. Sources said the accused returned through the same road they had arrived.
“An extensive recce preceded the robbery. The accused possibly knew that large cash was kept inside the office of the shop,” said an official.
The robbery took place barely a few meters away from the Karni Vihar police station, across the bypass.
Different police teams fanned on multiple fronts. One team trailed CCTVs mounted on streets, highway eateries, shops etc. Another left to collect clues of two bikes used in the robbery.
This is the third major robbery in Jaipur in 10 days. A wheat trader on August 24 was robbed of cash over Rs 50 lakh and estimated gold of Rs 1.5 kg after five armed robbers barged into his house in Galta Gate. A jeweller was also robbed of silver and gold jewellery of Rs 12 lakh the same night on August 24. Despite a string of armed robberies in Jaipur, the city police have yet to make any headway in these cases.
