Hustle bustle at BJP office in Jaipur, buzz missing at Congress HQ
The management of the party office is also in a very professional and corporate style at the BJP office. The party had hired the services of professional security services to control the crowd at the main gate as well as the chambers of the leaders while maintenance staff cleaned and watered the lawns.
A party leader said, “Union home minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit the state on October 14 and the leaders are busy with the preparations. The presence of these leaders in the party office makes the difference. Since the leaders are here the ticket seekers are making a last-ditch attempt to impress upon them and stake their claim for party tickets.”
The Congress office on the other hand mirrors the opposite. No leader of consequence could be found in the party office. A worker said “all the leaders are now camping in Delhi as screening committee and central election committee meetings are going on there. Till the tickets are decided, they will not return to the state.” The Congress had claimed that it would announce tickets early this time but so far, the wrangling among the leaders is said to be delaying the process. The BJP took the lead by announcing 41 tickets where in 40 constituencies the party was facing successive defeats.
He also said the protest by some leaders after denying tickets it was a reflex action. He said, “Now after three days no protests and you will see complete unity in the party as BJP is a cadre-based party.”
Punjab AAP leaders protest against arrest of party leader Sanjay Singh
Members of Punjab's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and workers held a demonstration demanding the release of party leaders Sanjay Singh, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendra Jain. They accused the Modi government of arresting Sanjay Singh without evidence in a non-existent liquor scam. The AAP ministers and MLAs sat on a dharna and burned an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They claimed that the BJP government initiated a crackdown against AAP due to fear of defeat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Kerala Congress leader upset with party line on Hamas hit
Congress is facing pressure from its Kerala leader, Ramesh Chenniathala, to take a stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict that supports the "two-state" option. Chenniathala expressed dissatisfaction with the party's statement, which endorsed Palestine but did not mention the attacks on Israeli citizens. Party members Shashi Tharoor and Jairam Ramesh clarified that while the party still supports Palestine, it differentiates between the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) and Hamas. The Congress Working Committee (CWC) expressed support for the rights of the Palestinian people and called for an immediate ceasefire and negotiations.
BJP panel to woo upset leaders
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has set up a "Damage Control Committee" to address the concerns of potential rebels within the party. Led by Union minister Kailash Choudhary, the committee will negotiate party positions with disgruntled leaders and prevent them from leaving the party. This move comes after the BJP released its first list of 41 candidates.
