Gadkari’s roadshow: Of Modi chants, being highway min and JCB machines

Jaipur: Flower petal showers and chants praising PM Narendra Modi echoed in Vidhyadhar Nagar as Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari along with the BJP candidate from the seat Diya Kumari took off their roadshow in the constituency.
Though initially, the roadshow saw limited participation of party supporters, with some distance covered, it took the momentum and hundreds of BJP workers took on the streets in their bikes and cars. Voters, curious to see who is the leader accompanying their local candidate, piled up on the road. Supporters raised chants of “Aab ki Bari Diya Kumari" and “Modi’ as the convoy marched ahead.
“Who is that minister?” asked Sandhya Sharma to which her college going niece Diksha replied, “He is that minister who is known for making the roads and highways in India,” failing to remember the name of the leader.
A moment of tensed atmosphere came when the convoy crossed the Congress party office which however went off with both workers raising slogans of their respective political parties.
A distance of nearly six kilometre was all decorated with petal showers. The party had especially had brought in numerous JBC machines on which people stood to greet Gadkari and Diya Kumari. In every 100 meter, there stood one JCB machine to greet the leaders with flower showers.
“The concept of getting JCB during roadshows are getting very popular, this is new trend for election campaigns. It is easy to fit two-three people and get closer to the convoy if required,” said Tulsi Soni, a BJP party worker from Vidyadhar nagar.
The roadshow, however, was cut short as the cabinet minister was already running late and had to head back Delhi to discuss over the under-construction tunnel collapse on the Yamunotri National Highway which is meant to connect Silkyara and Dandalgaon in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district.
Though happy that Gadkari visited their constituency, the locals however voiced the void of still no show of Prime Minister Modi at Vidhyadhar Nagar.
"This constituency has been a BJP stronghold anyway. He (Nitin Gadkari) has a very good image, he has making highways across the country. However, we would be happy to see Modi coming here once before election," said Shailesh Shekhawat, a businessman of the region.
